There are two very popular acids used in acne products. One is benzoyl peroxide and the other is salicylic acid. What’s the difference?
With the proper amount, both acids are effective in treating acne. However, both serve different purposes.
Salicylic acid serves to work off the outer layer of skin cells, which prevents dead skin cells from loitering around and clogging your pores. Benzoyl peroxide on the other hand is a component for killing bacteria. It sterilizes the skin to prevent acne breakouts. Previously, these two acids were used separately, but lately, the use of a mixture has become quite popular.
Keep in mind that these are ACIDS. High concentrations will burn your skin and leave it worse than before.
